Milking Technician
Pagel’s Ponderosa Dairy
Duties:
- Handle cows calmly, carefully, and respectfully, minimizing stress on cows
- Adequately stimulate teats to encourage milk letdown
- Prep and attach milking units in a timely manner that encourages milk letdown and cow flow
- Practice good milking hygiene (clean teats, milking units and hands)
- Correctly identify when milking unit re-attachment is necessary
- Identify an inflamed (hot/swollen) udder
- Change inflations/air tubes
- Recognize when equipment is malfunctioning
- Follow equipment cleaning procedures
- Safely use cleaning chemicals
- Identify abnormal milk
- Access and enter information in record systems (computer or paper)
- Administer dry cow treatments
- Make recommendations on cull candidates (clinical mastitis, slow milker, kicker, etc.)
- Set up the parlor for wash cycles, clean and disinfect rotary parlor at the end of every shift
- Additional duties as assigned
- Ensure the highest standards of the humane treatment of animals
Skills and Experience:
- Ability to understand, communicate, and execute oral and written instructions
- Ability to recognize changes in conditions of animals, malfunctioning equipment, and unsafe conditions
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Dependable and able to work with minimal supervision

Maternity Technician
Pagel’s Ponderosa Dairy
Duties:
- Handle cows and calves calmly, carefully, and respectfully, minimizing stress on the animal
- Recognize beginning stages of labor and determine when to contact a veterinarian or other assistance
- Provide assistance to animals in labor
- Prep and attach milking units in a timely manner that encourages milk letdown and cow flow
- Follow colostrum handling and storage procedures to maintain quality
- Feed colostrum to newborn calves within four hours of birth
- Follow farm weaning procedures
- Feed individual and groups of calves the correct quantity and type of feed, identifying significant changes in feed intake
- Utilize an esophageal feeder
- Dehorn calves
- Visually observe changes in individual animal health, identifying sick animals
- Administer treatments including injections, oral and IV treatments
- Additional duties as assigned

Cow Mover
Pagel’s Ponderosa Dairy
Duties:
- Monitor cow movements, ensuring cows are returned to correct pens
- Ensure gates and doors are properly latched
- Clean facilities, stalls, alleys, parlor, storage, and equipment as necessary
- Maintain clean cow beds and pull back bedding
- Level all deep bedded stalls using skid steer
- Utilize skid loader to scrape manure alley and push up feed
- Recognize ventilation problems and adjust ventilation systems as needed
- Clean return alleys and holding area after milking completion
- Identify opportunities for improving work processes
- Perform general maintenance on equipment
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures
- Ensure the highest standards of the humane treatment of animals
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve company goals
Skills and Experience:
- Ability to understand, communicate, and execute oral and written instructions
- Ability to recognize changes in conditions of animals and animal room environment, malfunctioning equipment, and unsafe conditions

Diesel Mechanic
Pagel’s Ponderosa Dairy
Duties:
- Diagnose, inspect, recondition, repair, assemble, and service equipment as assigned by the Diesel Shop Manager
- Perform in-field/on road machinery diagnostics and repairs as required
- Perform routine maintenance, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and parts
- Disassemble and reassemble machines and equipment following repair, testing operation and making adjustments as necessary
- Record details of repairs made, and parts used
- Document machine information and repairs completed on work order, including parts and fluids used
- Maintain a clean work area, as well as care for all shop tools, machines, and equipment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety
- Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments and adhere to all policies and procedures as specified in company manuals
- Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards
Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures involved in maintenance repairs and replacement
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to think logically, follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions.
- Possess organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently on a variety of equipment in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent trouble-shooting skills
- Ability to utilize technology to troubleshoot and repair equipment

Farm Equiptment Operator/Shop Help
Pagel’s Ponderosa Dairy
Duties:
- Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on the farm equipment and building systems
- Operates payloaders, tractors, skid steers, cropping equipment, semi tractors and other modern-day large farm equipment
- Performs other general farm maintenance and duties as assigned, including uncovering and covering piles, washing equipment, and other laborious duties
- ·Complies with all safety policies, practices and procedures and utilizes appropriate safety equipment at all times
- Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve company goals
- On call weekend rotation
- ·Other duties as assigned
Additional Duties:
Duties during a Growing Season:
- Field work including disking, plowing, planting, cultivating, etc.
- Perform maintenance on down machinery in fields
Duties during a Harvest Season:
- Check and clean out bunkers
- Pack pile
- Run dump carts if needed
- Cover walls and pile with plastic and tires
Duties during Manure Application:
- Move and place manure equipment as needed.
- Haul and disperse manure as instructed.
Skills and Experience:
- Mechanically minded individual who can trouble-shoot problems and is comfortable repairing and maintaining equipment and buildings
- Ability to utilize new technologies
- Experience operating large farm equipment and semi tractors
- Strong communications skills
- Problem solver
- Independently motivated / team oriented
- Ability to perform at a high level in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to follow written and oral directions
- Experience servicing and operating large farm equipment
- Manure applicator experience, a plus
